Lifecycle Cost Reduction of Mechanically Stressed Components

Infrastructure components such as traffic routes, structures, or technical installations face continuous mechanical loads and environmental stress, leading to potential structural changes and material fatigue.

Parametric’s monitoring solution enables early detection of such changes and continuous condition monitoring of infrastructure components.

Key application areas

  • Railway infrastructure (tracks, sleepers, switches, substructure)
  • Road infrastructure
  • Bridges and civil structures

Two approaches to condition monitoring

Vehicle-based measurement - sensors installed on trains, road vehicles, or inspection vehicles capture vibrations and accelerations during operation. The primary advantage is large-scale monitoring of entire networks, without the need to install additional sensors along the infrastructure.

Direct infrastructure monitoring - stationary sensors measure vibrations, accelerations, rotational movements, acoustic signatures, and environmental parameters on bridges, structural elements, switches and technical installations.

Combining both approaches provides the greatest value: large-scale network monitoring paired with high-resolution analysis of individual components.

Data processing

The collected sensor data is preprocessed locally and subsequently analyzed in the Parametric Cloud for trend detection, condition evaluation, and alert generation.
